Western Power Distribution

Western Power Distribution ESQCR Project
The Brief

We work in partnership with Western Power Distribution and their multiple subcontracting teams of Overhead linesmen to carry out domestic works on private properties within the central south wales area. The Property would have been surveyed by the District Network Operator to show the cabling to or in the property was not in accordance with the Electrical Safety Quality, Continuity Regulations 2002 (ESQCR ).

What We Did

Our role would be to liaise with the relevant overhead lines team and visit the property to meet the customer and explain the work that was required to be done at their home, this was often where our skill and experience would come into its own, on a majority of occasions the Main Equipotential bonding at the property would also need upgrading at the property, or means of a RCD would need to be installed. This was also planned at this meeting whilst keeping the customer happy with the proposal, and keeping a continuity of work for all teams as the project was on a tight time frame then a date was set to begin the work and complete the work in two visits.

On day one the work was planned for the team. Fusion Engineers would turn up on time to begin the Installation. This was where the cable would be installed through or around the property the cable would be installed between the existing consumers distribution board and the new external service cabinet at the prior agreed position on exterior of the property. The additional earthing would also be installed at this visit.

On the second visit the Fusion team would have booked in the overhead line team for the change over from the old service cable to the new cabling where the consumers electricity meter would be repositioned outside the property in the new service cabinet with the installation of relevant switch fused units to protect and discriminate the cables, the property would be re- energised on the new service cable and all relevant NICEIC documentation would be provided to the DNO and the property owner with the test results attached to comply with BS 7671.
